The Cabbage Soup Diet
The Diet Plan and Recipe


cabbage soup On the Cabbage Soup Diet, you are allowed to eat as much cabbage soup as you wish, along with a limited amount of other foods for 7 days. Calorie consumption on this diet is so low that it promises at least 10 pounds of weight loss during the week. Since calories are dangerously low and the diet is nutritionally inadequate, no one should attempt this diet for longer than the 7 day duration.

The Cabbage Soup Diet provides a jump off point for those wishing to drop a few pounds quickly before starting a longer-term and more substantial diet plan. It also provides a quick fix for anyone needing to shed some pounds to fit into a dress for a special occasion, or to look good in a bathing suit for a beach extravaganza with friends.

What To Eat

This 7 day plan promises all you can eat as long as you eat at least 2 bowls of cabbage soup every day, and stick to the restrictions on the other allowed foods. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.



Day 1: All the cabbage soup and fruit you can eat, except bananas. Drink water, cranberry juice, unsweetened black coffee, and unsweetened tea.

Day 2: All the cabbage soup and vegetables you can eat, except for corn, beans, or peas. Eat a baked potato with butter.

Day 3: All the cabbage soup, fruit, and vegetables you can eat (of the fruits and vegetables that are allowed on Days 1-2).

Day 4: All the cabbage soup you can eat, up to 8 bananas, and two glasses of skim milk.

Day 5: All the cabbage soup you can eat, up to 20 ounces of fish, beef, or chicken, up to 6 fresh tomatoes, and at least 8 glasses of water.

Day 6: All the cabbage soup you can eat, up to 3 steaks (beef), and unlimited vegetables.

Day 7: All the cabbage soup you can eat, unlimited vegetables, up to 2 cups of brown rice, and fruit juices.

Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe

There are variations for the recipe, but the main ingredients are cabbage, an assortment of low calorie vegetables such as onions and tomatoes, onion soup mix, and a flavored broth or bouillon.

1 head cabbage
4 sticks of celery
6 large green onions
2 bell peppers
1-2 cans of diced tomatoes
3 carrots, sliced
4 cups of water
1 package of onion soup mix
1-2 cubes of low sodium bouillon

Chop all the vegetables and boil them in water for 10 minutes. Reduce to a simmer and add the onion coup mix, bouillon, and any other spices. Continue cooking till vegetables are tender.
