Who It’s For

For those who want a good workout without it being too demanding or strenuous. It’s not complicated and will work fine if this is your first pilates workout, or if you do pilates all the time. Provides a good variety and is great for switching up your pilates workout routine.

What To Expect

I really didn’t feel like exercising today, so there was no way I was going to make the gym. I decided on this video because it’s only 40 minutes long and promised a combination of cardio and pilates. This exercise DVD woke me up and got me going. I worked up a sweat, got my heart rate up and felt really good after.

You wear tennis shoes for the first half hour while doing standing cardio and pilates techniques. Burn and tone with lots of squats, squeezing, and leg lifts, all while focusing on building your core strength. Then you’ll move on to mat work for the remaining 10 minutes, strengthening your abdominal muscles and toning your lower body.

One thing I didn’t like about this DVD was the little drummer boy. Basically, there’s a guy on the bongos in the background who got too many close-ups. Fortunately, he was only featured in the very beginning and the distraction ceased.

Great workout overall. The instructor Ellen Barrett was pleasant and emphasized proper breathing, which is important for those who’ve never done pilates and aren’t sure when to breath in and when to exhale. This is definitely a exercise DVD I’ll do again.
