There are foods to avoid in order to create a change in your body’s health and appearance.

Begin to create a healthy and balanced diet by avoiding foods that take a toll on your waistline and well being.

Here Are The Top 5

Soft Drinks

A study done by the Center for Science in the Public Interest found that sodas are the single largest source of calories in the American diet, providing 7 percent of calories overall.

The average soda has about 150 empty calories and 50 grams of refined sugar. If you drink one soda a day with a meal, you’ve consumed about 1050 extra calories a week. By the end of the month, it translates to over a pound of fat.

The health risks associated with soft drink consumption is outstanding. Several studies show that soft drinks are directly related to weight gain, may increase the risk of osteoporosis, kidney stones and heart disease, and cause dental enamel erosion and tooth decay.

Foods Containing Transfat

Main foods to avoid are those made with trans fats. Trans fats are man-made in a process that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid. They are also known and labeled as partially hydrogenated oils.

They raise your bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and lower your good cholesterol levels (HDL). Eating trans fats increases your risk of having a stroke, developing heart disease, and developing type 2 diabetes.

Fried Foods

Avoiding fried foods should be a no-brainer, but it sometimes difficult to do. Who doesn’t love french fries?

Many fried foods contain trans fatty acids and are high in calories. The accumulation of these fats and calories contributes to high LDL cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases and weight gain.

A recent study by Swedish researchers found that frying high carbohydrate foods like potatoes releases a nerve-toxin called acrylamide that has been shown to cause cancer in rats. Acrylamide causes nerve damage in humans and could cause cancer.

White Bread

White bread is one of the difficult foods to avoid, especially for teenagers and children. White bread should be avoided because is made with refined grains that have been striped of vital nutrients, fiber, and vitamins.

White breads contain carbohydrates that are high glycemic, which send your blood sugar levels soaring, triggering a rapid release of insulin. White breads put you at higher risk of diabetes because your pancreas becomes overworked when you regularly consume such a refined food.

The lack of dietary fiber in white bread and refined foods has a negative impact on your metabolism and poses many health risks. The consumption of refined foods leads to constipation, malnutrition and cancer.

Alcohol

Why would alcohol make the foods to avoid list when research shows that a glass of wine per day provides great antioxidant support?

Drinking alcohol with a meal or excessive drinking on a night out can significantly increase your caloric intake, will lower your blood sugar level (making you hungry) and will hinder your fat metabolism.

Research outlined in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition measured fat metabolism before and after the consumption of vodka. For many hours after drinking vodka, whole body lipid oxidation dropped by 73 percent. Furthermore, alcohol is converted into acetate (which your body will burn for energy) and replaces fat as a source of fuel.

*Foods To Avoid Fun Fact*

Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White claims he lost 30 pounds in the off season by eliminating alcohol from his diet.

When ESPN editors asked experts about the possibility of losing weight with cutting out alcohol, they each provided a great scientific explanation.

Dr. Stuart Fisher said that alcohol is lipogenic and that carbohydrates consumed with beer, wine, or liquor will be turned into body fat quicker than normal. A sports dietitian for the New Orleans Saints said that excessive alcohol inhibits the production of testerone and increase cortisol release, which increases fat storage.

LenDale’s weight loss was attributed to cutting out alcohol and the subsequent regulation of his metabolism and hormone release.
