Green Tea
Weight Loss and Benefits Explained

Green tea weight loss has been a popular topic in the health and fitness world for many years. The main questions surrounding the topic: Does green tea really help to burn fat faster? Can I lose weight quicker with green tea?

The answer to these questions is yes.

Green Tea - Weight Loss

Green tea is not a magical drink that will burn the fat in your body as you sip it, but it does aid in weight loss by increasing fat oxidation rates and boosting metabolism.

In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, scientists concluded that green tea ingestion can increase fat oxidation during moderate-intensity exercise. In the study, men who consumed green tea extract 24 hours before a 30 minute cycling exercise experienced a 17% higher fat oxidation rate than those who took a placebo [1].

Green tea catechins are the primary reason for green tea's role in weight loss. Research has shown that catechins reduce body fat by stimulating thermogenesis (increasing the amount of calories burned for energy). Tea catechins stimulate hepatic lipid metabolism, helping you to burn fat quicker.

Green Tea Weight Loss in the Media

In 2004, The Oprah Show featured Dr. Nigel Perricone who had some interesting things to say about the effects of green tea on weight loss. Here is a transcript from the show: "Look 10 Years Younger in 10 Days".

Oprah: Now I've read in your book that you said if I just replaced coffee with green tea instead, that I could lose 10 pounds in six weeks.

Dr. Perricone: Absolutely.

Oprah: Now really. How could that -- what is the big deal about this?

Dr Perricone: Coffee has organic acids that raise your blood sugar, raise insulin. Insulin puts a lock on body fat. When you switch over to green tea, you get your caffeine, you're all set, but you will drop your insulin levels and body fat will fall very rapidly. So 10 pounds in six weeks, I will guarantee it.

Oprah: I'm gonna do that. OK. That is so good! Whoo! That is great.

Based on a plethora of research and in conjunction with what Dr. Perricone says in his books and on the show, green tea aids in weight loss not only by boosting lipid metabolism, but also through stabilizing insulin levels.

About Green Tea

Green tea has been around for thousands of years and its health benefits have been researched and documented by scientists all over the globe.

Green tea has powerful antioxidants with the potential to fight heart disease and cancer, to lower cholesterol, and to prevent diabetes and stroke.

Where to Find Green Tea

You can find green tea at any grocery store or online. I've been drinking green tea for over 10 years, trying different brands till I found one that's become my favorite: Certified Organic Darjeeling Green Tea.
