Meal Replacement Shakes

Meal replacement shakes offer advantages to your weight loss efforts. They are practical, convenient, the calorie counting has been done for you, and you end up with fewer decisions to make concerning your meals.

Meal replacement shakes and other meal replacements such as bars and other snacks are specially formulated for weight loss and weight control. In 200-400 calories, they are usually packed with essential nutrients, protein, and a good balance of carbohydrates.

Making Meal Replacement Shakes Work For You

Limit your intake of meal replacement shakes to one or two meals per day. When you eat actual food, make sure that your meals are nutritionally balanced and healthy. You should be consuming a balance of protein, healthy fats, and carbs such as vegetables, lean meats, beans, etc. You can use our healthy meal plan as a guide and replace one or two meals with a shake.

Include lots of fresh fruits, almonds, and vegetables as snacks. In addition to providing essential nutrients and fiber, they are also great at curbing hunger.

Use meal replacement shakes for meals that require the most convenience. If you are rushed for time in the morning, instead of skipping breakfast or eating fast food breakfast sandwiches, you should have a shake. Likewise, if cooking dinner is not your thing, a shake is a great option.

Don’t worry about becoming bored with your shakes. There are a huge variety of shakes in the market. You can avoid being bored by your shakes by trying different ones.

Buying the Best Meal Replacement Shakes

When choosing a meal replacement drink you need to be conscious of the amount of sugar and artificial ingredients included. If you’re a health nut like me, there are many shakes on the market that make me cringe when I read the label.

The healthiest shake I’ve found is one that I have fallen in love with. It contains 26 superfoods (raw organic sprouts, seeds, and greens), 20 vitamins of minerals providing at least 100% daily value of 16 key nutrients, 34 grams of protein, 9 grams of fiber, 2.5 g of healthy fat, live probiotics and enzymes, is completely raw, vegan, gluten free, and dairy free. It’s called RAW MEAL – Beyond Organic Meal Replacement Formula by Garden of Life. I don’t go a day without making this shake and it is the healthiest addiction one could ever have. You mix 2 scoops with 16 ounces or water or low sugar juice. I get more creative with mine and opt for blending 1 scoop with 1 cup of strawberries or peaches, and 16 ounces of water. Delicious!

In regards to buying shakes or powders other than my favorite one:

Shakes should offer a balance of all essential vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, carbs, and protein. They should be low in saturated fat, have no trans-fat, and be low in sugar and sodium. They should provide anywhere from 200-400 calories.

I’m always a little hesitant to drink a pre-made shake out of a can because of all the artificial ingredients and processing, but if you don’t have time to blend a shake, here are a few that will do. I don’t recommend anything with Aspartame in it, and all of the following are Aspartame free.
