Pulled abdominal muscles are no fun. You can pull a muscle doing various activites like yoga, pilates, tennis, running, ab workouts, or something as relaxing as golf!

If you have a hernia it means you’ve torn an abdominal muscle and will most likely need to see a doctor.

If your injury isn’t severe enough to warrant a doctor, there are some things you can do to alleviate the pain and eventually get better.

If you have pulled abdominal muscles, the first thing you need to do is rest. Avoid exercise and physical exertion. Your abdominal muscles are active in everything you do, so it’s best to lie down for a while and stay relaxed. Keep ice on the area to reduce pain and swelling. If it’s not painful, it’s helpful to stretch the area gently. When you’re feeling better, make sure you warm up the muscle before any exercise to prevent further injury.
