Sonoma Diet

With the Sonoma Diet by Connie Guttersen you eat flavorful meals made from a variety of healthy foods. The diet emphasizes enjoying delicious and portion controlled meals over deprivation.

Portions are controlled under a concept called Plate and Bowl. You eat off of 7 and 9-inch plates and from 2 cup bowls, filling percentages of the plate with fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. The book actually provides visual guides for portion control, illustrating the Sonoma Diet Plate and Bowl concept with pictures.

Sonoma Waves

The diet is broken up into Waves.

Wave 1:

The first 10 days of the diet teaches portion control. It's restrictive and helps you kick the habit of eating refined and processed foods.

Wave 2:

This is the main part of the diet. During this period, you are less restricted. You are allowed to have a glass of wine with dinner and your menu options include more variety.

Wave 3:

Once you've reached your goal weight, you enter this maintenance stage.

Delicious Food

The book is very interesting and features hundreds of recipes for gourmet meals. You can find additional recipes online.

Out of all the diets, this one peaked my interest the most. The only criticism I have is that it is very time consuming. If you don't like to cook, this diet is not for you. There are great recipes for you to choose from, but they are pretty elaborate and take time to prepare. If you don't have time to worry about shopping for fresh foods and standing in the kitchen preparing a cuisine, you would probably have a hard time sticking to it.
