25.Sep.2012 Vinegar and Weight Loss

There are claims that there is a correlation between drinking vinegar and weight loss. Some sources say that apple cider vinegar helps your body burn fat more efficiently. So does science say, and does vinegar for weight loss work?

After doing some research I’ve found that the answer is yes, if only indirectly. Apple cider vinegar helps balance blood sugar levels. We all know that blood sugar levels effects our feelings of hunger, and that when it spikes and crashes, we begin to crave carbohydrates. Vinegar helps weight loss by positively effecting blood sugar, which helps you control cravings. Therefore you may eat fewer calories throughout the day. Long story short, vinegar helps control hunger and cravings like an appetite suppressant.

There are other ways to balance your blood sugar without drinking apple cider vinegar. You could eat 5-6 times a day to regulate your levels. Avoid refined sugars and white flour. With the proper diet of fiber, low-glycemic carbohydrates, proteins and good fats, your blood sugar levels should be regulated enough to support the feeling of satisfaction all day.

In addition to regulating blood sugar levels, studies show that vinegar may lower bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which could help you lose weight.

Aside from weight loss support, apple cider vinegar has many other health benefits. Daily apple cider vinegar intake can help with free radical damage, arthritic pain, high blood pressure, and acid reflux. It’s a decent source of potassium and calcium. Apple cider vinegar also has strong anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties.

So, even if apple cider vinegar can’t promise overnight weight loss, it can still support a healthy lifestyle conducive to weight loss. With all the associated health benefits and the possibility of weight loss, it certainly can’t hurt to add apple cider vinegar to your daily regimen.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar

Quality matters. Look for organic, unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar in liquid form, not the pill form for best results.

Try 1 teaspoon before meals and gradually work up to three teaspoons (equivalent to 1 tablespoon).
